The field of podiatry is relatively new in Asia.  Being based in Singapore, where podiatry has been present for less than 20 years, many medical practitioners are still unaware of what podiatry is, and how it can help treat lower limb injuries. 

Podiatry can be divided into 3 broad fields - Diabetic foot care, General care and Biomechanics.  Diabetic foot care is the management of diabetic feet for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of diabetic foot injuries.  General care covers the treatment of skin and nail conditions affecting the feet.  And Biomechanics covers how the foot functions during gait and the injuries that may arise, which can be treated via surgical or non-surgical means.  This article will cover non-surgical treatment for lower limb injuries.
