PHYSIO SPEAKS: Interview with the Physio to Dipa Karmakar at Rio Olympics-SAJAD AHMED MIR

Your journey in physiotherapy & how did you get into sports physiotherapy?- I did my BPT from M V Shetty College. I am thankful to Dr. U.T. Ifthikar Ali sir, who supported me every way he can. As I was a sports person, I wanted to be a sports physio. I joined Hamdard University for my MPT (Sports). Here we had compulsory postings in Sports Authority India (SAI), New Delhi where we got the exposure to deal with National Athletes, and thus the journey of sports physiotherapy began which literally changed my life for better. I believe that there is no scope in any profession; it depends on how you make your own scope and growth of your profession. I am very thankful to My Parents and to those who have supported me in this journey.

Since how long you have been working as a physio to Dipa Karmakar and how did you get the opportunity?- After completion of my MPT two years ago, there was a vacancy in SAI, New Delhi for a Sports Physiotherapist in the National Gymnastics team. I applied and got selected and there I started working with Dipa Karmakar. While working with the entire team, I have transformed immensely and learnt a great deal. I focused not only on the extreme sports but also learnt & practiced the most creative approaches in diagnosis, injury rehabilitation, treating acute injuries and return them back into the field.
