PHYSIO SPEAKS: An Interview with the Unassuming Physio Playing a Pivotal role in P. V. Sindhu's triumphs - DR.KIRAN CHALLAGUNDLA

Dr. KIRAN CHALLAGUNDLA is a name that needs no introduction to the Indian Badminton arena as far as physiotherapy is concerned. A modest demeanor, an unassuming style, a down to earth behavior are hallmark of Dr. Kiran, who believes in staying away from the limelight & let his work speak for itself. Working truly behind the scenes to support champion sports persons, he was the first full time physio to join the P. Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad in 2009. He has worked closely with SainaNehwal for many years including the London Olympics in 2012 and has been working with the latest badminton sensation, P V Sindhu ever since she was 13 year old. He is credited as a crucial member of team Sindhu and has worked closely with the coach in her journey to the Olympic silver.

The main reason why I opted for physiotherapy is because I loved sports. I used to regularly play almost all the sports during my school and intermediate studies. I did my under-graduation from Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences (MCOAHS). During my 3rd and 4th year in UG, I really liked neuro physiotherapy also. I used to spend a lot of time treating the stroke patients. We need to have lot of patience as recovery takes time.
