HEALING HANDS: Manual Therapy and Taping Techniques for Lumbar Facet Syndromes in Females - PROF. UMASANKAR MOHANTY

PROLOGUE: Matrita, a 24 year female model came to me with complain of Low back pain in right side lumbar region during standing since last one month. I examined her and observed that the pain was getting aggravated with back bending, side bending flexion to the right side. On observation prima facie, I found the lumbar lordosis is accentuated and in palpation I found the pain was more marked at the right side L3-L4 facet region. I applied mobilization and manipulation techniques and she recovered in 5 sessions. The diagnosis of the case was Facet Syndrome for L3-L4 region of right side. In the clinical practice I often see females with Low back pain with facet involvement.

Facet  involvement in females are common for the Sports women (Athletes, Cricket Bowlers, High Jumpers, Soccer players and Raquet Sports players), During pregnancy, After childbirth, Teachers, Models and females wearing high heels (more than 5cms heel). One of the prime affective component is habitual extension position(Fig.1). In this article the author is describing elaborately about the facet syndrome and treatment using the manual therapy, core stability and taping techniques
