NCD (Non communicable disease) is like a villain that has caught us off guard with merciless tendencies.  According to authentic sources like WHO, the world is facing an ever increasing NCD menace since 3 to 4 decades. NCDs are slow killers exemplified by diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases and cancers etc. Not only that; it compromises the quality of life to a great extent. Despite insurmountable medical costs involved in management of NCDs, neither the death rate nor the population occurrence rates are decreasing. Nearly 80 percent deaths in low-to-middle income countries are now due to NCDs amounting to 29 million deaths annually on a global scale. Nearly 9 million deaths are premature occurring before 60 years. 90 percent of these premature deaths occur in low-to-middle income countries. According to studies conducted in India, nearly 60 percent of the deaths in India are due to NCDs. And India lost a staggering 237 billion dollars during the decade 2005-2015 for the management of heart diseases, stroke and diabetes.
